ASEAN Artists was created to bridge the world of ASEAN Arts and Cultures at a worldwide scale through an intimate story telling of each artists' lives, background, lifestyle and inspiration.
The company was founded by Ian Paskon; a Thai-American dual citizen who fell in love with his ASEAN roots despite being born and raised in the USA. His passion in ASEAN Fine Arts led him to create the space for artists whose stories have never been told in the English language. Each artist holds a unique style, talent and are free to create their own vision. Many of the artists have deep roots in Buddhism and have created collections based on their belief. Others have been deeply inspired by Traditional Arts and have taken a keen interest in how that translates into the modern world today.
"I am very passionate about the background of each artist, their inspiration, and their life. I visit each of them personally in their hometown to tell their story in their own words." - Ian Paskon
Worapol is an abstract artist that cites his inspiration for the collection Raw Emotion, "When I practice intensive meditation to remove myself from physical desires, my mentor monk guided me through the practice of removing each layer of the human skin. I have practiced this technique thousands of times and what I have seen throughout the years has been translated into my new collection."
Another artist whose paintings have deep roots in Buddhism is Amalakaa with her collection Birthday Buddhas. She says that her inspiration and style comes from her study in Buddhism and being an art teacher of 7 years for tribal children in Northern Thailand.
ASEAN Artists hopes to be the advocating voice of native Southeast Asian artists. The stories we want to share are ones that have never been told to the world before. We believe that by telling these stories, we will help audiences from around the world gain a better understanding of Southeast Asian arts and cultures.
